Annexation vexation continues
Two residents from North Brooks Hollow (Kim Magee and Margaret Ryan) were escorted out of a November 22nd City Council meeting by Police Chief Radford after they were requested to leave during Council discussion. Both were disruptive and could be heard making derogatory remarks about the Mayor and Council during discussions about zoning their recently annexed neighborhood. They were not charged and the zoning passed with a 4-0 vote - with Council Member Tye abstaining.

2011-12-03 12:38:43 | Margaret RyanMayor DeOme has consistently shown a negative attitude toward the residents of Brooks Hollow. He is arrogant, makes derisive comments and shows utter disrespect towards anyone who opposes him and his agenda. At the meeting Kim Magee was speaking (each speaker is allotted 3 min.)the mayor interrupted her several times. She was pointing out the fact that he denied every suggesting a Brooks Hollow zoning. She had in her hands letters from the mayor that disputed that fact. When Kim was thrown out I simply asked him if he would rather be called a prevaricator, that got me thrown out. The residents of Lakeway should be appalled at Mayor DeOme's behavior. He runs the council like a tyrant.

2011-12-03 14:39:50 | Upset Resident - Upset ResidentMr. Mayor DeOme of Lakeway suggests we on North Brooks Hollow “don’t pay taxes”. He has said it time and time again. Yet Another lie. Based on Lakeways strict re-build policies, as you know our values would drastically drop. That being said, our street currently pays in approx half a million dollars annually in taxes to Travis County, yes that’s right, we do pay taxes. Should this annexation stand, and we are under the clause that we cannot rebuild, this would drastically affect the Travis County taxing authority. I don’t think that on a STATE level, Lakeway is following proper procedure. Greatly reducing the Travis County tax base is NOT beneficial.
Please do not expect everyone to make the same choices that you make, or criticize us because you may think we are making the wrong choices. Even though I disagree with you, I respect your right to have and express your opinion. I wish you would have the same respect and not talk down to those who disagree with you. Remember we all have one vote on election day, now that you have annexed us.
Mr. Mayor, I know your being dishonest yet again to your citizens. I had the opportunity to meet with our State Capitol and they feel our best support for defense is from the citizens of Lakeway, since you continue to tell them we don’t pay taxes.. We need to inform the city that it is not in their financial interest to annex our street. By annexing our street, you are REQUIRED to bring it up to the same standards as that of the rest of the municipality. Lakeway has allotted $187,500 for improvements to the Coves of Lakeway portion of Brooks Hollow, from Hurst Creek to Explorer, and only allotting $10,000 over 10 years for our portion of the street. That’s really cute that Chessie Blanchard thinks this is the case. She is incorrect. we need to make it public knowledge that our street will only contribute $37,000 annually in taxes and we will require Lakeway citizens tax dollars in excess of $250,000 to repair our st...
